You can’t tell you are enjoying Florence like a local if you have never been at Enoteca Alessi, the wine bar / deli shop / and much more in Florence city center.
Florence like a local at Enoteca Alessi
Enoteca Alessi (“enoteca”, from Latin, literally means “wine collection”: the word is used in Italian to describe a shop that displays a wide & wisely chosen selection of great wines – a lot more than just a “wine shop”!) is located at the very heart of the Florentine old town, very close to the Duomo – the Florence Cathedral.
Since its opening in 1952, it has always been run by the Alessi family.
In 2007 Enoteca Alessi decided to open a tasting space: a cozy room for wine lovers, surrounded by display cabinets containing precious spirits.
The tables are little works of art, handmade by Massimo and Antonella (and, yes: you can have at home something like that!). The mood is cool and relaxing… A place where stress and rush are banished!
The Wine Bar opens at noon and closes at seven in the evening.
You can have a snack or a full meal, trying whimsical salads, bruschette with vegetables and (fanfare mode on) the famous taglieri dell’Alessi, luscious platters with tuscan meats and cheeses produced by artisanal butchers that work with free range raised pigs coming from Tuscany and small cheese producers, farmers from Siena and Maremma, that dedicate themselves to please the customer with tasty and peculiar cheeses made with passion and professionalism, always in respect of old tuscan traditions.
The wine list is ample, but if you don’t find what you are looking for… You can go downstairs, in the cellar (about 300mq where the perfect temperature and humidity to preserve wines create an awesome environment to admire over 2500 different labels of wines) which enshrines Sassicaia, Super Tuscan, Brunello among the others, and choose a bottle of wine yourselves to open and taste in the Wine Bar!
Enoteca Alessi has been awarded with the prestigious recognition of Esercizio Storico Fiorentino (Historical Florentine Shop) and it is the perfect chillaxing zone after a stroll in Florence city center.
